One of the cons, if it can be so said, of getting your reading material from a library is that you need to do your reading as per some rules that have been laid down by the library. Prime among those is that you need to return the book back within a stipulated period of time, which usually is 14 days. If you haven’t done your reading by that time, you will have to get the same book re-issued to continue with the reading. That again isn’t always the case if it’s a popular title and many have queued up to borrow the same title when it becomes available.
Interestingly, all of the above applies to e-books as well. That said, there exists a loophole with the e-book borrowing system so that you can continue reading the last borrowed book for as long as you’d like to even if it is past the due date. The trick, as revealed on the website HowtoGeek is simple. All that you have to do for that is to turn on the airplane mode on your Kindle. That’s it. Once that is done, your Kindle will lose all contact with the outside world. The other requirement is that you should never close out of the book.
That way, each time the Kindle wakes up, you will have the book available for you to read. This remains true even if the Kindle is drained of all its battery and powers off. However, once it is back on and resumes operation, the book will still be there for you to read for as long as you’d want it to. So, as long you haven’t closed out of the book and have not connected to the internet, the Kindle will continue to be in the same state as it was.
Now, if all of this makes you feel like being a cheater and that you have stolen the book from the library, the thing to keep in mind is that that isn’t the case. Rather, the fact is, the particular e-book has already been returned to the library. It’s just that your Kindle has not refreshed in the absence of an internet connection to be aware of this reality. Instead, it is continuing to show the same title you might have been reading the last time the device had gone online.
As for ways to invoke airplane mode on your Kindle, just tap around the top of the display. This will show a down-facing arrow, tapping on which will reveal a notification zone containing shortcuts to several features including the airplane mode. Just tap on the icon and the airplane mode will be invoked.
So, the next time you miss out on the library deadline, you can continue to read the title using this method.

With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in the world of technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles as well, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. Motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot and maybe I’ll make a film sometime in the future.
