The coming of age of advanced robotics and artificial intelligence technologies might be seen as a boon by many though the same might come at the cost of human labor. The current trend at the moment is to let robots do the work that earlier would have been accomplished by humans and Amazon is at the forefront when it comes to inducting robots as a workforce. As Ark Invest’s Cathie Wood revealed to CNBC, it is about a thousand robots that Amazon is adding every day so that there is a robot worker in place for every three human workers that Amazon has at the moment.
At this rate of induction, Amazon might end up having more robots than human workers by 2030. As things stand at the moment, Amazon is counted among the largest employers in the world and could soon emerge as the company with the largest number of robot workers as well. Advancements in the field of artificial intelligence and battery technology will only add further impetus to the emergence of more mainstream robots.
“If you look at the cost declines, which drive all of our models … for every cumulative doubling in the number of robots produced, the cost declines are in the 50-60% range,” said Cathie Wood.
However, given the current state of uncertainty and stunted growth that the economy is faced with at the moment, Amazon, along with other biggies in the tech industry has resorted to laying off employees to save costs. It announced 18,000 job cuts though its employee count is still more than what it had before the pandemic. Amazon no doubt would be looking to increase efficiency and cut losses with the induction of more robots in the coming days though it remains to be seen how it manages to balance both at the same time. It had more than 1.6 million employees by the end of 2021.

With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in the world of technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles as well, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. Motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot and maybe I’ll make a film sometime in the future.
