Thousands of modern Kindle e-readers are suddenly showing a blank screen. This applies mostly to the 11th generation Amazon Kindles, such as the Basic, Paperwhite and also the Kindle Oasis and the latest Kindle Scribe. Users will be reading an ebook and all of a sudden the screen will be blank and nothing can be done to solve the issue. Reboots, wiping all of the data, nothing seems to work. The only thing users can do to avoid this situation is to put it in airplane mode, which shuts off WIFI.
Amazon issued a statement to Good e-Reader, outlining details on how to solve the problem and steps they are taking to resolve the situation. “We are aware some customers are having difficulties accessing content on their Kindle e-reader devices, and our teams are working quickly to resolve the issue. In the meantime, customers can contact Amazon Customer Support or take the following steps to fix the issue.”
- Go to Manage Your Content and Devices and log in to your account.
- Click Devices.
- Select the impacted device and click Deregister.
- Restart the device by holding down the power button for 40 seconds continuously.
- When powering back on your device, you will need to re-register it to your Amazon account, and then you will be able to access your content. Deregistering and re-registering your device will not cause you to lose any content.
