Today, Amazon launched a new feature that gives Astro the ability to learn from you in a way similar to how we learn new things: by listening to a description of an object while looking at it. It’s powered by a new multimodal AI feature, and we are starting with doors and windows as objects that you can teach Astro about. You can now teach Astro which door is your front door, or which window is the kitchen window – and once Astro learns which is which, it will be able to automatically alert you to changes in their status, e.g. if you leave the front door open.
Doors and windows are just the beginning here – we expect to add more objects, such as pet food bowls or furniture, to give Astro more ways to provide convenience and peace of mind.
- This new feature, called Check My Things, is only the latest new capability to Astro:
- Since Astro’s launch, we have given it over 150 choreos (unique animated expressions) with new ones just added for the 2023 New Year and Lunar New Year.
- Last month, we gave Astro one of the most commonly requested features from customers: the ability to recognize cats and dogs. Now, you can have Astro automatically send you a video anytime it sees your fur baby!
- We’ve also heard loud and clear that kids love Astro. So, we gave it the ability to play hide and seek last month, and expect to continue adding new games.
