In a memo to staff, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced that the company’s corporate employees will be required to return to the office for at least three days a week starting May 1, CBS News reported. This marks a departure from Amazon’s current policy, which allows managers to determine their team’s working arrangements. Jassy explained that the decision was made based on the company’s observations during the pandemic. After studying staff performance and consulting with other business leaders, Amazon concluded that employees were more engaged and collaborative when working in person.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy clarified that the specifics of the new policy have yet to be determined. However, he felt it was important to share the decision with employees as early as possible, following a meeting of the company’s senior leadership team this week. While some roles will be exempted from the policy, Jassy indicated that only a small minority will be affected.
In recent weeks, Amazon has announced plans to reduce its corporate workforce by 18,000 positions as part of an effort to streamline its payroll, which grew rapidly during the pandemic. Other major tech firms, such as Salesforce and Google, have undertaken similar measures.
Jassy noted that the move to make in-office attendance mandatory could benefit local economies as well. “I’m also optimistic that this shift will provide a boost for the thousands of businesses located around our urban headquarter locations in the Puget Sound, Virginia, Nashville and the dozens of cities around the world where our employees go to the office,” Jassy wrote.
With the pandemic easing, most companies have started to make it compulsory for its workforce to return to office even though a section of the workers feel working from home has made them more productive and continue to push for the work-from-home regime.

With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in the world of technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles as well, the latter being my latest fad. Besides writing, I like watching videos, reading, listening to music, or experimenting with different recipes. Motion picture is another aspect that interests me a lot and maybe I’ll make a film sometime in the future.
