Amazon and Panera have partnered to pay for orders and redeem rewards

March 24, 2023 by Alexis Boutilier Leave a Comment

Every three months, one in five Americans go to one of the 2,100 Panera bakeries and cafes nationwide. This translates to more than 66 million people eating in or taking food to go. The fast-casual restaurant chain has a devoted following for its MyPanera loyalty program, which has more than 52 million members and offers each one access to customized rewards. It is known for its soups, sandwiches, salads, and freshly baked pastries.

Panera will use Amazon One’s recently released loyalty linking feature to elevate MyPanera to a whole new level. The ability to link MyPanera loyalty memberships to customers’ Amazon One profiles will be made available for the first time through Amazon One, our palm recognition tool that enables consumers to enter, identify themselves, and make payments. The MyPanera loyalty program and palm payment are now both available to customers of Panera, the first restaurant chain to use Amazon One’s new loyalty linking feature.

Hovering their palm over the Amazon One device will allow customers who choose to sign up for Amazon One and link their MyPanera account to be greeted by name and receive highly customized service. Opt-in consent is required for enrolment in Amazon One, which is voluntary. Customers have the option of using Amazon One for both payments and loyalty connections.

The Panera bakery-cafes at Town and Country and Bridgeton are the first two Panera locations to offer Amazon One with the loyalty linking feature; additional Panera locations will offer Amazon One in the upcoming months.

A significant issue for the restaurant and retail sectors is addressed by the MyPanera integration with Amazon One: customers occasionally opt out of loyalty programs because they would rather make their purchase and be done with it than deal with the sign-up and redemption processes. Enrollment in MyPanera is simple for new visitors who decide to sign up using Amazon One.

Comparable to that, opening a submenu in a mobile app, looking for email vouchers, or remembering to bring real coupons are all time-consuming and onerous requirements for customers to redeem rewards. In order to load their MyPanera account with tailored rewards that Panera offers depending on their choices, Panera customers can now choose to hold their palm over an Amazon One device.
