A North Carolina police standoff during which an Amazon delivery driver left a package has gone viral

April 6, 2023 by Alexis Boutilier Leave a Comment

The outstanding and risky delivering talents of an Amazon driver have gone viral. In a recent TikTok video, the driver pulls up to a cul-de-sac surrounded by police cars, walks through the armed cops, and drops off a box.

In the March 18 footage, an Amazon employee is seen walking up to the driveway where there appears to be a standoff, surprising the responding officers as she does so. As soon as they spot him, they order him to stop and remove the item from his hands, following which he calmly makes his way back to his car and snaps a quick photo of the situation. At the time of the drop-off, there were more than a dozen Raleigh, North Carolina, police vehicles there. Uncertainty exists on the circumstances leading up to the standoff. Around 7 million people have watched the video.

The company’s treatment of its drivers has long been questioned. Then-Washington, D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine announced in December that he was suing Amazon for misappropriating drivers’ tips in a “deceptive, illegal scheme that tricked consumers into thinking they were increasing drivers’ compensation when Amazon was actually diverting tips to reduce its own labor costs and increase profits.”

The e-commerce behemoth was accused of stealing about $62 million in tips by the FTC in 2021.
